CANDICE GAY (CANDY) SUTHERLAND On April 19, 2010, after a long struggle with cancer, Candy slipped away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 53 years.  Candy was born on July 31, 1956 in Edmonton, Alberta.  She spent her early years in Edmonton and St. Boniface, Manitoba, and moved with her family to British Columbia when she was nine years old.  She lived in the West Kootenays, the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and the Cariboo-Chilcotin, before settling in the Kelowna area in the early 1990’s.  Candy attended New Caledonia College and Okanagan University College, and graduated from the University of Victoria in 1998 with the degree of Bachelor of Social Work.  Candy served as the Executive Director of the Kelowna Drop In and Information Centre from 2001 – 2006.  Candy was predeceased by her

beloved partner Debbie Kereluk in 2006, and also by her mom Beth, father Ian, brothers Rick, Robin and Neil and Ian Jr., sister Dawn and sister-in-law Jean.  She is survived and will be greatly missed by her brothers Ross (Martina), Carey (Lorna) and Glen (Melody), sisters Carol and Susie, daughter Jasmine, grand-daughter Maria, great-niece Ariel, and many, many more nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and her cat Rusty.  A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, April 24, 4:00 p.m. at the Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna.  The family will be forever grateful to Hospice House in Kelowna for their help with everything, large and small, during the final months of Candy’s illness.  The family also wishes to thank Doctors Perri and Ellard, hospice social worker Chris Jenner, and the Canadian Cancer Society – Southern Interior.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who wish to do so make a donation in Candy’s memory to the charity of their choice.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting, 250-860-7077.
