CAROL Frances THOMPSON (nee Would)

CAROL Frances THOMPSON (nee Would)

Passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the age of 62 years, after a feisty battle with brain cancer. Survived by her husband Bill, daughter Jodie (Henry) Siu, and grandson Holden, along with brothers Bob (Lynda) Would and Gord (Betsy) Would, sister Barbara Schaefer, sister-in-law Linda (Rudy) Mayer, uncle Art Would, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol was born July 30, 1946 in Vancouver, BC, and her family moved to Rutland in 1949. Carol displayed early musical talent along with an outgoing nature. In addition to piano and bass violin, she loved to participate in school drama plays and noon hour sock hops. Carol was crowned the 1963 Miss Kelowna “Lady of the Lake,” the first from Rutland. Upon high school graduation, Carol was hired by the Bank of Nova Scotia in Rutland and went on to work for them in Vancouver and Calgary. Carol married the love of her life, Bill, in 1967. They spent much of their married life in Calgary, where daughter Jodie arrived in 1973. Carol was an exceptional homemaker and a loving stay-at-home mom. She was an avid volunteer with the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Jodie’s school, and in the horse show world. In 2001, Carol and Bill returned to Kelowna. Here she renewed her involvement with the Lady of the Lake Society, including helping to organize the 75th reunion. Carol enjoyed many games of golf and was a devoted fan of the Calgary Flames. Carol was extraordinary at keeping in touch with family and friends. Her annual Christmas card always included a newsy letter, and she was an avid letter and email writer. She could always be counted on to remember anniversaries and birthdays, and loved nothing better than organizing a family breakfast or dinner. Carol was always outgoing and could strike up a conversation with anyone. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior, and the exceptional and loving staff of the Douglas Fir Hospice at Cottonwoods. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s and All Angels Cathedral Church, 608 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s and All Angels Building Fund; the BC Cancer Agency, Centre for the Southern Interior, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna V1Y 5L3; or “Palliative Care,” c/o Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, 2255 Ethel Street, Kelowna V1Y 2Z9.
