DAVIDSON, DORIS MARY
Doris passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2012.
She is survived by her husband, John; children James, Anne, Charles and Mary; grandchildren Kate and Kit; sister Kate Drought and niece Jennifer.
Doris was born March 15, 1924
to Charles and Pearl Dain, and spent almost her entire life on
Kelowna’s Westside, returning
after her marriage to John in 1949 to her childhood home to raise a family and farm a cherry
orchard. She enjoyed a full and happy life, enriched by her many friends and her beloved animals.
She taught English and Creative Writing at Kelowna
Secondary School for many years and later, ESL classes. These brought new friendships and much personal
As retirement approached Doris began raising Connemara ponies and brought the first of this breed to BC. She spent many years promoting and improving the Connemara breed and delighted in supporting new owners. Doris formed many life-long friendships through her interest in horses as well as through her other passion: writing stories and poetry. She passed many pleasant and stimulating hours with her writing friends as they read over and encouraged each other’s work.
The family is very grateful for the medical and home care Doris received. Our special thanks to the family friends who visited and brought her cheer and comfort. In keeping with her wishes there will be no memorial service. Doris
delighted in all animals and nature, and if so desired, a
donation to an animal welfare organization of your choice would be appreciated.
