November 29, 1921 - September 7, 2018
On September 7, we lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather in his 97th year. Harold Douglas (Doug) Corbett was born November 29, 1921 in Metchosin, BC. The youngest in a family of 10 children, he was predeceased by his parents and siblings. He is survived and forever missed by his loving wife Jocelyn; son Robert (Jennie) Corbett; his "Birthday Girl" daughter Maureen (Tim) Rieger; (Kelowna) and son Andy (Denise) Corbett (Fruitvale). Also by grandchildren Chris Corbett (Holly Read) of Vernon; Emily (Scott) Sedgman of Kelowna; Lindsay (David) Boyd of Manchester, UK; Erica (Jason) Nyberg of Kelowna; Jacqueline Rieger of Kelowna; Peter (Heather) Corbett of Winfield; and Michelle Corbett of Trail, as well as 8 great-grandchildren; Hayden and Violet Sedgman; Mara, Piper and Felix Corbett-Read and Mirabella, Ariah and Oriana Boyd, also many nieces and nephews and their families.
Doug started as a machinist at Hafer's Machine Shop in Victoria. He joined the RCN during WWII, and served in Nova Scotia, repairing ships of the North Atlantic convoys. After the war, he worked as a machinist and planner-estimator at the naval dockyard in Esquimalt. In 1967, the family moved to Osoyoos, and Doug purchased a small fleet of Vanguard travel trailers, renting them to summer vacationers. When Vanguard moved their factory to Winfield in 1970, he moved the family there and set up an RV sales dealership. Doug and a partner also operated Cruise Okanagan, taking tourist cruises up and down Okanagan Lake. Doug was always very good-natured, kind, fair, and honest, and was a real role model for his family. His family was without a doubt, his greatest pride and joy. They will miss his amazing stories told of memories of his long life. Doug and Jocelyn resided in Winfield until recently. They enjoyed their retirement years together, gardening and traveling to Australia, Fiji and multiple trips to Hawaii. Doug was very handy, putting his loving touch on many projects around the house and yard.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rodney Joshua, his secretary Janelle, and the staff at Cottonwoods for their kind and loving care during Doug's final months.
Doug requested no funeral, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
