May 11, 1956 - Jun 3, 2018
On June 3 at Hospice House in Kelowna, British Columbia, Alan passed from this earth to eternal life. His passage, in his words, was "to paradise, the house with many rooms" (John 14), where he is now reunited with his bride.

Alan was born to Dr. George and Elizabeth Paeth in Seattle, Washington. After completing his final year of high school overseas in Lan Schule Heim Stein and der Tran, Bavaria, Germany, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Computer Science at the California Institute of Technology. His first job after graduating was at a small start-up in Pasadena called Xerox. He was married in 1983 in Santa Cruz to Catherine Anne Person. They moved to Ontario, Canada as landed immigrants, where Alan pursued his Ph.D. of Mathematics in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. On completion, they moved to Kelowna where he taught Computer Science at UBC Okanagan and raised his young family.

In his later years, Alan found great joy in travelling with his children and becoming "Papa Dad" upon the birth of his grandchildren. His faith in Jesus Christ was evident in the love he showed family and friends, and his connection to a wide variety of churches in the Okanagan. He was predeceased by his wife, Cathy, and parents, Dr. George and Elizabeth Paeth.

He is survived by his four children: Scott (Christina), Douglas (Rachel), Natalie (Edward), and Katherine Abigail; his grandchildren, Isaac, Mary-Kate and Stewart; and his siblings, David (Susie), Douglas (Janet), and Wendy.

We will always remember Alan for his huge heart, fierce intellect, and his relentlessly curious mind.

A  memorial service will be held at Mission Creek Alliance, 2091 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC., on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BC Cancer to bring a PET/CT scanner to Kelowna (http://bit.ly/bccf-paeth) or to the Central Okanagan Hospice House where he spent his final months.
