After a long year of hardship we sadly announce the passing of our dad, George Johann Walz. After battling a variety of illnesses George passed away with family at his side on the morning of February 13th. Left to miss him deeply are his daughters Gabriele Walz-Kellerman (Kevin), Dorothy Abougoush (Gordie) both of Kelowna; sons George Walz (Yvon) of North Vancouver and Alex Walz (Darlene) of Kelowna. Grandchildren Chad, Michelle and Jason Abougoush, Matthew, Mitchell and Curtis Walz, all of Kelowna and Chelsey Walz of North Vancouver will all miss their Opa and treasure their fond memories of him. He was predeceased by his wife Gisela in 2008 and his son Martin in 2002 and is survived by his sister Marta Walz of Germany. Born on May of 1925 in Reutlien/Betzen Germany, serving his country in WWII at the age of sixteen then at war’s end becoming a prisoner of war, he was released in his mid twenties. Returning back to his homeland to rejoin his family and start life over, he met and married the love of his life Gisela Dangel in 1954. He immigrated to Canada in 1957, with anticipation of work and the hopes of starting a new and better life for his family. He established the carrier of owner/operator of a drywall business in Regina and Swift Current Sask. until the family made its home in Kelowna in 1971.  Dad’s adventurous side led the family to try their hand at farming 100 acres, and a 20 acre orchard, and in retirement joining the snowbird team for numerous years. Dad was a long time member of the Kelowna German Harmony Club and the Chapter of Kelowna Schlarifia Club. The biggest pleasure in dad’s later life was without a doubt his grandchildren. He looked forward everyday to seeing and spending time with his grandchildren at his home on Venus Road.  We will all miss him deeply. With the recent passing of both our parents Gisela and George Walz we invite friends to join us in a celebration of life this Saturday (02/21/09) at the Kelowna German Harmony Club between 1:00 – 3:00pm.
