It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Gampie has officially "Gone Golfing". George passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his side.
He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Jim Janicki and father-in-law Joseph Pitura. He was the loving husband of 48 years to Darlene Janicki, dedicated father of Tracie (Dwayne), Trevor (Louann) and proud grandfather of Jordan, Taylar, Kaedence, Karington, Kallico and Bradley.
A beloved big brother to Richard (Marilyn) Janicki. Exceptional caring son in law to Doreen Pitura. George leaves behind in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany he immigrated with his family to Canada. He grew up in Madsen, Ontario, married his high school sweetheart Darlene, and they eventually settled in Sudbury, Ontario. Upon his graduation from Halibury School of Mines, George was employed as a Geologist with Inco LTD for 30 years before retiring to the sunny Okanagan. He took pride in his family, his friends, was always warm and welcoming, and had a drink waiting for them. George himself was an all-round athlete in his younger years and could be found in Kelowna at the numerous hockey rinks and soccer fields cheering on his grandchildren and showing tremendous support. Gampie's pool was always meticulously maintained with the help of grandson Jordan his Pool Foreman.
George was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus.
We would like to thank all George's health care team for their expertise and compassion.
Prayers are appreciated. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date to be announced.
