Passed away peacefully at Three Links Manor with family by his side. Gerald was born in Hazenmore, Saskatchewan and in 1930 moved with his family to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. In 1942, he married Jean Laxdal, the love of his life and they spent 58 years together until Jean’s passing in May of 2000. They raised their family of seven in Meadow Lake where Jerry operated Joyal’s Trucking. Summers were spent at the Greig Lake cabin. In 1985, they moved to Kelowna which was always their dream. During those years, they wintered in Yuma, Arizona. Wherever Gerald was he made lasting friendships. He had a wonderful love of life as well as a genuine interest in and love for people. He always made everyone feel special and they loved him. Predeceased by his wife Jean, his daughter Patricia Bacon, his sister Ethel and her husband Maurice Gran as well as his brother Wilfred Joyal. He is mourned by his four daughters: Dianne (Rodney) Friesen, Debra (Robert) MacDonald, Judith (David) Riddell, Lori Thomas, his two sons: Bruce (Joyce) Joyal, Dale Joyal, son in law; Tom Bacon; 12 grandchildren Doug, Lee, Tracey, Shawn, Jason, Kevin, Tyler, Jillian, Robyn, Britne, Mackenzie, Ally; 12 great grandchildren; his brother Jack (Evelyn) Joyal; sister in law Amy Joyal and all his nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his many dear friends. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Three Links Manor who provided such excellent care to him. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna,BC. A private family internment will follow.
