BRODER, GERDA, KATHE (deVries)

Oct 19, 1931-May 31, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Gerda Kathe Broder. Gerda is

lovingly remembered by her 4 children, Lorenz (Elmana), Anita, Stefan (Rhonda),

Ingrid (Graham) along with her 3 grandchildren,

Chelsey, Gabrielle, Jesse and great-grandson Landyn. She is also survived by her twin brother Bernhard

deVries and his family in Germany and other

extended family and friends. Gerda was born in Emden, Germany in 1931. She married in Germany, then immigrated to Kelowna, BC in 1953. In 1987 she moved to Vancouver to be with her children and

returned to Kelowna in 2003 at the Kiwanis Tower where she made many friends.  She loved playing her

music, dancing, baking and planting flower-gardens. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. We will never

forget her support and caring ways, her beautiful face, the softness of her voice, the gentleness of her touch, her hearty laughter and genuine smile. She let us know we were always loved for she always lived for her children unconditionally. Gerda was independent, strong-willed and had a heart of gold. We will miss many things; the stories she told, the

traditions she handed down, the lessons she taught, the things she stood for, for they are her gift and our legacy. “Mom, we will always

honour you everyday in how we live and in who we are.” Mother always said, “Keep on smiling and the whole world will smile with you.” As our lives move on, we know you are dancing and having fun with your family and friends. You will forever be our Angel and your spirit will endlessly live in our hearts. We would like to thank the staff at the Central

Okanagan Hospice House that took tender-care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Central Okanagan

Hospice House.  A “Celebration of Life” will take place at the Kiwanis Tower this Saturday,

June 20, 2009, 1pm-3pm.
