MILLER (Black), Gertrude (nee de Jong)

February 19, 1917 – February 17, 2017

Gertrude “Trudy” passed into heaven two days short of her 100th birthday. She was able to spend her 100th birthday with Jesus and her loved ones in heaven!

Trudy was born in Jouré, Holland, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1926. The family established a dairy business near Trail, BC, and worked very hard. Trudy fell in love with an Irishman, John Black and they married in 1942. They had two daughters and lived in Vancouver, Fruitvale, Castlegar and Westbank. John died in 1982, and in 1984 Trudy married Robert Miller, a family friend. They had 27 happy years together in Westbank and Kelowna.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Margaret (Don) McLellan; sisters Anne Bowman and Sue Weismiller; sister-in-law Ida de Jong; grandchildren Sharalynn Clark, David (Emily) Clark, Trevor (Erin) McLellan, Gina (Lukas) Morel; nine great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents Reinder and Wijbrigjen de Jong; her first husband John Black (1982) and second husband Robert Miller (2011); her daughter Susan Clark and son-in-law George Clark; her brothers John and Louis de Jong; sister-in-law Ruth de Jong and brother-in-law Ken Weismiller.

Trudy was a poet, artist, cook, gardener and she loved to crochet. She greatly loved her family and people in general and was much loved in return. She spent her last three years at Sutherland Hills Rest Home. Thank you to those who cared for her during her final years!

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
