1923 ~ 2014

Gladys Irene Eby was

born on December 23, 1923 in Guernsey Saskatchewan to Amelia (Ulmer- Russia) & Oliver Eby (Kitchener, ON)

A neighbour’s daughter, a nurse home for the holidays, and acted as mid wife. When Gladys was very young she was a court stenographer and became a hairdresser, working in Maidstone and Regina.

Hair dressing became her life’s profession and she

advanced to become the manager of Dion’s Beauty Supply Co. in Regina. She had a full staff and travelled many Saskatchewan rural roads seeing her clients. Living alone as well as a woman traveling alone was very unusual for a woman in those years. She had the opportunity to travel and make many lifelong friends in the beauty business.

In 1975 Gladys married Fred Sonmor and they moved to Kelowna B.C, where she was active in the church choir.

She enjoyed many years as a snow bird to Arizona where she became a frequent actor in the Good Life Players

and learned china painting. Gladys enjoyed entertaining

and cooking. In later year Gladys and Fred moved to

Hawthorn Park in Kelowna. A special thank you to the

staff of Spring Valley Care home for the kindness and

wonderful care in her final weeks.

She was predeceased by her mother Amelia in 1934

and Father Oliver in 1957. In recent years- Sister Edna

and brothers Bill & Leo and step-son Jack Sonmor.

Gladys leaves to mourn her husband of 40 years, Fred;

step-daughter Lynn Sonmor and step-son Fred Sonmor

(Brigitte); a host of nephews and nieces; six step grand

children, Jonathon Sonmor, Cher Rampton (Crosby),

David Sonmor (Kendra), Kim Sonmor (O.J Parisien)
