SUMNER, Helen (nee Reichenbach)

July 9, 1955 – August 7, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Sumner announces her passing at the age of 62 years, following a motorcycle accident, on August 7, 2017.

Helen will always be lovingly remembered by Bill, her husband of 40 years, and their children, Ken (Dana) (and their children, Lexi and Jaxon), and Kim (Mitchell)

Russell (and her stepson Michael). Helen will also be dearly missed by her mother Ida, her brother Gordon, sisters Susan (Ron) Jacobs and Lorna (Gordon) Hensel; niece Leanne, and nephews Daniel (and his daughter Avanna) Alex, Curtis, Keith, Michael (Jenn), and Jamie; as well as by Bill’s sister Liz, and her adult children, Robin, George, Sue and Steve. Her father, Wolfe, and sister-in-law, Wendy Reichenbach, both predeceased Helen.

Helen was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and shortly after completion of high school began a career as a Surface Landman in the employ of, or on contract to, numerous oil and gas companies in Edmonton and Calgary, including Amoco,

Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas, Dome Petroleum, and PanCanadian, and then with Snell & Oslund Surveys in Red Deer, Alberta, prior to retiring in 2003.

She also found time during this period to raise a family, remain active within the Shriners organization, and to achieve a Level 1 Black Belt in Hapkido martial arts.

Upon his retirement in 2007, Helen and Bill moved to Kelowna, B.C., where she discovered quilting and a passion for motorcycles.

A Celebration of Helens life will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, August 18, 2017, at Horizon Village - Whitemud (Village Centre) 245 Oeming Road, Edmonton, AB. (Parking may be somewhat limited – suggest you car pool if possible.)

Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, Helen would be honoured to see donations made to the Shriners

Hospitals for Children – her and her father’s charity of choice.
