Herbert GANSKE

GANSKE – Herbert passed away on February 16, 2010 at the age of 84. Survived by his daughter Cindy (Dale) Carlson of Wetaskiwin, sons Sheldon (Rianne) Ganske of Gwynne and Murray (Cathy) Ganske of Kelowna, five grandchildren Karl, Emma, Kristen, Emily and Natasha, three sisters Erna, Alvina, and Hanna. Sadly predeceased by his sisters Martha, Ida and Alma, brothers Ben, Awalt, Ferdinand, and his granddaughter Erin. Herb was born in Wetaskiwin, AB, on June 27, 1925. He grew up on the family farm in Wetaskiwin County. Herb married Gert Tribiger in 1957 and they moved to Edmonton later that year. He worked mostly in the construction industry until the family moved to Kelowna in 1967. Dad was then self employed where he had a small landscaping business for a time but went back to work in construction. He bought a lot on Fisher Rd where they built a home with the help of family and friends. He continued working in general construction until he retired. Upon retirement he started his second career in the Flea Market and garage sale industry where he enjoyed spending most of his time buying and selling antiques, one of a kind items, and small engine powered equipment that he would bring back into good running condition and re-sell at the flea markets on the weekends. He enjoyed the occasional hunting trip with his friends as well as traveling the local logging roads in search of the perfect tree for firewood. He loved get-togethers with family and friends and rarely missed an opportunity to socialize. Herb will be sadly missed by his family, friends, special family friend Leona Markewich, and his extended family at Three Links Manor where the staff enjoyed his sense of humour. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KGH Foundation – Three Links Manor: 2268 Pandosy St., Kelowna, BC, V1Y 1T2.
