November 19th, 1925 - December 18th, 2016

MORTER, Howard James - (of Kelowna), passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital on December 18, 2016 at the age of 91. Born in Calgary on November 19, 1925. He attended Crescent Heights High School. Howard was a member of the RCAF and the Army in 1944 and 45 and spent a year at the University of Alberta in Edmonton in 1947, where he married Shirley Irene Stewart-Irvine on June 26, 1948. That year he joined the Canadian Western Natural Gas Co. and was transferred to Banff in 1951 as the District Agent. He was a member of Cascade Lodge No. 5 A-F and A.M., G.R.A. He was a past Master & Past Secretary and notably Past District Deputy Grand Master 1968-69. He is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Banff. Past President of The Royal Canadian Legion #26, Banff. Chief Instructor Banff Army Cadet Corp. Since retiring to Kelowna in 1982, he has become a Life member of the Kelowna Shrine, Club #15, a member of Prince Charles Lodge #153 in addition to his honorary Life membership of Cascade Lodge #5 in Banff, Alberta. He will be dearly missed by his loving family: wife, Edith of 18 years; daughters, Sandy (Ed) Mitchell & Bobbi (Chris) Allen; grandchildren, Chad & Courtney Allen and his great granddaughter, Kadence. He is survived by one brother, Donald (Isabelle) of Calgary. A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a later date with interment in Banff.
