It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan at the Rockyview Hospital on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the age of 74 years.
After dealing with the effects of Parkinson's disease for over twelve years with a very positive and up beat attitude, she was unable to recover from an emergency major surgery. Joan was born in Wawota, SK, to Wilfred and Ena Farquhar and moved to Salmon Arm in 1950.
Joan started her working career in the broadcast industry at the Big R radio station in Salmon Arm and spent thirteen years working at CKIQ radio station in Kelowna before moving to Calgary in the early 1980s to work at CBC, in the sales department for over twenty years. One of her highlights was volunteering at the 1988 Olympics at the Bobsled track.
Joan is survived by her life partner Bill Kurucz, her daughters, Julie Lade (Rick) of Chilliwack, BC, Jasanna Real of Vancouver Island, BC; her brother, Don Farquhar (Angie) of Salmon Arm, BC, sister Lorraine Isaac (Bill) of Westbank, BC; and her step sons, Brandon Kurucz (Denise) and Bradley Kurucz (Cindy). Joan was well loved by her grandchildren, Connor, Jonas, and Dayna Lade of Chilliwack, BC, Brooklyn and Scarlet Kurucz, and Tayler and Carter Kurucz of Calgary, AB: her seven grandchildren whom she greatly adored. Joan was predeceased by her parents and sister Lorretta.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Joan to be held in February 2020 in Salmon Arm. Details will be posted on her Facebook page at a later date.
