JOHANN â??Johnâ? PALATIN

passed away peacefully in Kelowna on Friday, January 16th, 2009 following a battle with cancer at the age of 81. John is lovingly remembered by his wife Ingrid of 57 years, nephews and nieces in Austria, and cousins in Kelowna and Vancouver. John was born on August 30th, 1927 in Kroatisch, Minihof Austria to Maria and Johann Palatin. After graduating from high school at the age of 16 he was inducted into the military where he fought in the Second World War. In 1945 John moved to Vienna where he worked for 2 years. John immigrated to Canada in 1949, with the help from his uncles Louie and Matt Palatin. He settled in Kelowna for approximately 1 year, and then he moved to Princeton where he worked in the mine at Copper Mountain. John decided to move to Vancouver in 1951 where he met his beloved Ingrid. Later that year (Dec 15th, 1951) John married Ingrid in the Martin Luther Church in Vancouver. John worked for many years in the Steel Fabricating Industry making furniture for businesses and custom homes. In the spring of 1988 John sold his business and house, and he and Ingrid retired to Kelowna. Living in Kelowna they made many new friends. John loved to go boating on the lake in the summertime, and go ice fishing in the winter months. John and Ingrid traveled extensively visiting family in Europe, they also enjoyed cruising together. Viewing will take place on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 from 6 ~ 8 P.M. at Valleyview Funeral Home, 165 Valleyview Road. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday January 23rd, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Theresa’s Church 750 Rutland Road North, with Father Otto Rollheiser O.M.I. officiating. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association, 202-1456 St. Paul St., Kelowna, BC V1Y 2E6. Ingrid would like to thank the staff at KGH for the loving care they gave John, (especially Helen and Chris).
