It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of a very loved wife and mother, Joyce Irene Buchwald (née Rowe). Joyce was born on August 31, 1939, at Fork River, Manitoba. She passed away on October 19, 2020.
Joyce is survived by her husband Ron; her stepchildren Heidi Cauvin (Michael), Erika Reynolds (Kevin), and Mark Buchwald (Samantha); as well as many nieces and nephews: Gordon, Brenda, David, Shane, Heather, Lindsay, and Hilary, Jason, Gary, Kyle, Belle, Birdie, Amanda, Josh, Hailey and Brett, Hunter and Caleb. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Robert Rowe in 1990, and Gladys Rowe in 2011, her brother Wilfred Rowe in 1993, Elmer Rowe in 2003 and her sister Lorraine Henley in 2018.
Joyce was employed with the Province of Manitoba Legislature and later with the Federal Government, the Department of National Defence Air Command, in Winnipeg for 23 years.
Joyce attended French Language Training and became a bilingual employee with the Federal Government. She excelled in this training, and we were so proud of her accomplishment to learn a new language so quickly.
Joyce graduated from Dauphin Collegiate School in Fork River, the University of Manitoba and Bradley University in Peoria Illinois. She successfully obtained a BSC in Business Administration and went on to teach Business Education as a Business Education Teacher at Gimli Composite High School.
Joyce also attended California University to study for her MBA. When Joyce retired in 1995, she was awarded with great distinction and honor, the long services award from the Prime Minister, Jean Chretien to honor her service to our country.
Joyce and Ron enjoyed travelling. Some of their travels included places such as Germany, parts of Europe and the British Isles. Warmer destinations were also a highlight and included trips to Mexico, and Hawaii.
Joyce married the love of her life, Ron, in 1985 in Dauphin, Manitoba. They resided in Winnipeg, Manitoba and enjoyed summers at their cottage at Grindstone Park on Lake Winnipeg, where they spent many peaceful days and evenings together.
In 1996, Joyce and Ron retired and moved to West Kelowna where they built their retirement home. It was there that they fell in love with the natural beauty and all the wonderful views. Joyce was baptized in the Immaculate Conception Church in Kelowna. She was a devoted Roman Catholic and enjoyed the companionship of members of the church.
In lieu of flowers, Joyce had requested donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
