Kathleen (Kathy) Ella Turvey

November 6, 1930 – January 5, 2017

Family and friends are mourning the passing of one of the most positive, gracious and caring individual ever. Surrounded by family, Kathy Turvey passed away peacefully Thursday, January 5th, 2017 in Kelowna General Hospital. She is survived by her six children: Brian (Georgina), Doug (Cindy), Pam (Ron) Wilson, Brenda (Perry) Sampson, Karen (Dale) Fletcher, Donna Ritchie, her sister-in-law Pat (Olaf) and brother-in-law Ken Turvey. Her 15 grandchildren, 37 great grand children and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews, will also sadly miss her.

Kathy was born in Edmonton where she later met and married Don Turvey on April 22, 1950. She often said ‘she picked the best one’. They moved to the Okanagan in 1964 to join the family business Turvey’s Furniture. Kelowna became their home in 1965. Her beloved husband, Don, lost his battle with cancer in March of 2006.

Kathy will always be remembered for her ever-positive outlook on life. For her, there was no negative, only positive. Her cup was always half full, never half empty. Family and friends will always remember Friday night with her homemade pizzas, her hobby of collecting knick-knacks and teddy bears, and for always having a coffee on for a friendly visit.

Besides being around family, Kathy’s greatest love was going camping with Don at the many fishing lakes around the Okanagan. After living ten years without the love of her life, Kathy has now gone to join Don on never-ending fishing and camping trips in heaven. She will no longer be in her room at Abbeyfield House where she would often be heard saying ‘I’m just sitting here being lazy’ the past few years.

Kathy will always be remembered for her baking, for her unconditional love and cherished as the “best mom and friend ever”.

Kathy’s family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff and residents of Abbeyfield House for their daily care and concern for our mom.

A celebration of life is being planned for sometime this spring. A date has not yet been confirmed.
