LAURIE Alexander THOMAS

aged 88, passed away on February 3, 2009 at the Central Okanagan Hospice House with his family at his side, after a long and very valiant battle with cancer. He was born on June 24, 1920 in Holland, MB. He was predeceased by his second wife Margaret, son David and his brothers Harry and Bim, with one surviving brother Jack of Burnaby, BC. He is also survived by his loving wife, Barbara of almost 39 years, 5 daughters, Jeanie and (Josh) McCarthy of Las Vegas, Nevada; Anne and (Bob) Main of Russell, MB; Lyn Thomas of Russell, MB; Eden Westmancoat of Laverne, Sask; and Joanie Sajjad of Edmonton AB, plus an extended family of one son, Michael and (Tracy) Whitehead of San Jose, CA and one daughter, Patricia Whitehead and (Dexter Gretchen) of Victoria, BC, as well as 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Laurie will always be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, who loved his family very much. He loved hunting with his buddies of 40 some years, golfing, dancing, card playing, cooking and making wine, and most of all talking to his many friends and neighbors in Sunrise Village and in the square dancing world. He was always willing to volunteer and help wherever he could. Our heartfelt thanks goes to Drs. Mark Clark and Randy Holmes as well as Andrea who went beyond the call of duty to attend to Laurie, and to the many nurses and staff at the new Hospice, especially Sandy Pulfer and Chris Jenner, plus all the many Community Care workers that came to the house to attend to Laurie’s needs. Everyone was exceptional in their kindness and caring. The celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 9th, 2009 at 1:30 pm in the Recreation Centre in Sunrise Village, 1255 Raymer Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel St., Kelowna BC V1Y 2Z6 or the BC Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior
