PHILLIPS, MARION ANNE Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the age of 60 after a courageous, but brief, battle against ovarian cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Alan of 40 years; daughter Kelly Shin (Jiseong) of Kelowna; two sons: Chad Phillips (Carrie) of Kelowna, Brett Phillips (Johanna) of Kelowna; four grandchildren: Maximus, Theodore, Athena, Kaishu; two brothers: Bill Sinclair of Yorkton, SK, Donald Sinclair (Joyce) of Edmonton, AB and nieces and nephews. Marion was born and raised in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. After high school, she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she met and married Alan. In 1975, they settled in Swift Current,Saskatchewan and began their family. Within the first few years their three children were born. People will remember Marion’s skills of exceptional leadership and strong work ethic as she carried out her responsibilities as
Director of Programs for Cypress Hills Community College. During her time in Swift Current, Marion was an avid curler and immersed herself in community activities. In 1994, Marion and her family moved to Kelowna, BC, where she pursued a career change and was quickly snapped up by ICBC. Recognizing Marion’s talents and attributes in working with young adults, she became entrenched in the Youth Employment Initiative Program which provided employment opportunities for up to 170 university students. Following her involvement with Y.E.I., Marion worked in Marketing and Communication, which led to her becoming Provincial Manager of this department.
Marion has always been about people and relationships.
Everyone who has known her can attest to her remarkable
personality, quick wit and generous nature. Marion cared about everyone and has left a lasting impression in the lives of all the people she has touched. She will be sadly missed. A Celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Saturday, April 17th at 3:30 pm at 1399 Bentien Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations explicitly stating “in Marion’s memory” may be made to Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 2Z6.
