Mary Nesimiuk (nee Romanuik)

September 24, 1917 to September 18, 2017

Mary passed away peacefully on September 18, 6 days before her 100th birthday.

Mary was born at the Romanuik farm in Rabbit Lake Saskatchewan, where she spent her childhood years.

Mary's adventurous spirit took her from the farm in Saskatchewan to Toronto and later to Vancouver, where she continued to develop her culinary, sewing and managerial skills eventually becoming the Floor Manager for West Coast Sportswear.

While in Vancouver, Mary met Mike Nesimiuk and they were married June 30,1954. Mary and Mike enjoyed the outdoors and were frequent travelers to visit friends and relatives. This often took them fishing where Mike would catch the fish and Mary would can the salmon or pickle the herring; renowned family favourites.

Following their intended retirement, they settled in Kelowna but were soon busy looking after their small orchard.

They always had a meticulously kept garden which allowed Mary to share her culinary skills at the welcoming dinner table. Visiting with Mary meant you weren't going to be hungry. Famous for her spring borscht, holupchi, holidetz and pyrizhky, Mary always extended a warm Ukrainian welcome with food to match.

Always meticulously well groomed and fashionable, with clothes she tailored herself, Mary looked smart, stylish and younger than her years.

Mary had a full and fruitful life, shared with a large extended family and friends.

She is predeceased by older brothers Walter, Tony and younger brothers Willie, Louie, Peter and Eddie as well as her sisters Ann, Pauline and Katie.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her sister Lillian Osachoff and her brothers Paul  and Jim Romanuik, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary's family invite friends and relatives to join us in remembrance of this remarkable women at Lakeview Heights Baptist Church in West Kelowna on Friday September 29, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lyndon Dojohn officiating.
