Peter OUD

Peter was born in “The Beemster” North Holland, July 28th 1933.  Peter was the eighth born to a family of 11 children.  The family home was also a Hardwood sawmill, where Peter learned to work hard as a Sawyer and Sheep Shearer.  June 10, 1953 he enlisted into the Dutch army where he served for 1 ? years.  He became a driver trainer and a driver for transporting all over Holland.  In 1957 Peter immigrated to Smithers BC, Canada, where he lived for 35 years.  He married Ann and had 5 children.  He worked in the bush as a sawyer; owned and operated his own construction business and then a rental store for a number of years.  He became a house painter and was very successful.  In 1992 he moved to Kelowna where he continued a successful painting career.  He got involved in the Klaverjas (Dutch card) Club where he loved to play and met Pauline!!  He made a lot of friends, loved to walk to Tim Hortons to meet and talk with his friends every morning.  Peter loved people, always making new friends and making people smile.  He was full of adventure, had the strength for many new beginnings in his life, through his strength, determination and love for life.  Peter peacefully passed away on September 10th after a courageous battle with dementia and cancer.  He is survived by his children Jim (Sherry) Oud of Smither, BC, Glen (Helen) Oud of LaCombe, AB, Peggy Oud of Kelowna, BC, Cliff Oud of Smither, BC, Wayne (Melody) Oud of Smithers, BC; partner and special friend Pauline Bark of Kelowna, BC; Grandchildren: Nicole, Madison, Christopher, Emily, Tiffany, and Dylan; brothers: Nico (Co) Oud, Cees Oud, Ben (Meip) Oud, Ton (Elly) Oud,; sisters: Marie (Franz) Wittebrood, Tini Commandeur-Oud, all from Holland, Ali (Jan) VanBaarson of Ladner, BC.  Predeceased by three brothers: Adrie, Jan, Anton; and one sister Agetha.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 10:30 am at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 750 N. Rutland Road, Kelowna, BC with Celebrant Father Otto Rollheiser OMI.  Interment to follow at St. Theresa’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, 4480 Oak Street, Room B321, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V4.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting, 250-860-7077
