BRIARD, Philip Thomas

November 1, 1931 – August 17, 2016

Phil was predeceased by his loving wife, Carole Marie, who passed away on May 26, 2008.  They were married for 49 years.  Predeceased by his mother, Ethel D. Briard, and his father Philip H. Briard, both of Toronto, ON.

Phil leaves his sister Marie Fulthorpe of Sheffield Village, Ohio, nieces Sue Salter of Vancouver, BC, Linda Brown of North Bay, ON, nephews David Fulthorpe of California and Douglas Fulthorpe of Florida.

Phil was born and educated in Toronto at North Toronto C.I. and the University of Toronto, where he obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956.  On graduation, Phil worked for a prominent Toronto consulting engineering firm, where he did much travelling throughout Ontario and the Maritimes provinces.  In 1970 he was transferred to Vancouver.  In 1979 he joined B.C. Tel Bldg. Engineering Dept., where he worked for 13 years, prior to his retirement in 1992.  In 1974 Phil and his wife Carole moved to Richmond, BC where he assisted his wife in operating a hobby kennel, where they raised Collies for pets and for show.  His wife won many awards at dog shows.  Phil was a past member of the Richmond Garden Club, and the Vancouver Rose Society.  In 2000, after selling their dog kennel, he and Carole moved to Kelowna, BC where he continued gardening and building model ships and antique cars.  Phil had a particular love of roses and won numerous awards for best in show for his roses.  Also a dahlia enthusiast, he taught and encouraged many to become the same in this rewarding hobby.
