February 29, 1940 - March 7, 2021
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert ("Bob") George Bamford, on March 7th 2021.
Bob reached his 81st birthday on Feb 29th. He was born in Birtle, Manitoba in 1940 to Robert Campbell Bamford and Ella (Gunn) Bamford. Siblings Delmar (wife Iris) Bamford, Velma Clayton, and Wanda Vernon (predeceased). Bob's wife, Susan (Brecknock) Bamford passed away suddenly from cancer 14 months earlier. They were together for 28 yrs.
He is survived by his daughter Joanna Johnston, son Randall (wife Dawn) Bamford, stepson Doug Fast, three grandsons, and four step grandchildren.
Escaping the life of a farmer, Bob joined the RCMP at the age of 20. He was a proud member for 28 yrs, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He was proud of this career that gave him amazing stories to tell of basic training, being on set as an extra in the movie "The Canadians", keeping the peace in the tough logging city of Prince George, and supporting each community he lived in coaching baseball and hockey.
Retiring early at age 48, he enjoyed many hobbies including: horseback riding, quadding, garage sale bargaining, maintaining the polo field, and making people laugh-with his stories and fun sense of humour. He was also a commercial pilot, enjoying his bush pilot days, flying a Beaver on floats in the Cariboo-Chilcotin back in the 80's. He loved to fly, taking to the skies, or just fishing off the floats as he drifted down the lake.
Lessons from Bob: Be a proud Canadian. Be proud of where you come from. Have strength of integrity in the path that you are taking. Be honest with people, even if it means you might not be liked.
Cheers Bobby Bamford. You will be missed.
