SHIRLEY LITTLE

SHIRLEY Marguerite Little (nee Adams) passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 23, 2008, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Survived by her loving husband and best friend Ken, daughters Karen (Scott) with grandchildren Amanda, James & Haley of Edmonton, Glenda (Lindee) of Regina, Laura (Joe) of Calgary, son Gordon (Donna) and grandchildren Ashleigh, Braeanne & Cameron of Edmonton, sister Geri (Elmer) Lawrence of Ardrossan, AB, nephews Barrie Ledoux of Whitehorse and Spike Ledoux of Calgary. Shirley was born and raised in Neepawa, MB. She moved to Winnipeg in her early twenties to find employment. She met Ken in 1955, they married in 1957 and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary September 7, 2007. Shirley was an accomplished softball player and curler. She played Second for the Evelyn Krahn rink from Regina, SK. The team won six straight Provincial Senior Ladies Championships (1982 – 1987) and three straight Canadian Senior Ladies Championships (1984 – 1986). Her prowess as a curler earned her induction into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame and the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. However, her greatest accomplishment was being a loving and supportive wife and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Shirley moved with Ken from Winnipeg to Prince George to Regina, retiring to Kelowna in 1990 where she continued to curl and golf. The family wishes to express their thanks to her caregivers, Dr. Colin Yarrow, the Kelowna Cancer Centre and staff, headed by Dr. J. Sutherland and Dr. Kim, the professional staff at the Westbank Interior Health office and the nurses and staff at the Douglas Fir Hospice. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, with Reverend Wayne Atkinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5L3 or the Holding Hands for Hospice Campaign, 202-1456 St. Paul Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 2E6.
