Sylvia passed away peacefully in Orchard Manor at the age of 90 years. She was the youngest daughter of Katharine and Roy Day of Kelowna. She married Ernest Galway Blackburne on Nov 11, 1950.
Sylvia was predeceased by Ernie in 2007. Sylvia is survived by three children: Susan (Doug) Kennett, Jack (Esti) Blackburne, and Ralph Blackburne. There are five Grandchildren: Danny (Jen) Kennett, Ben Kennett (Mike), Lorina, Michelle (Tyson) and Christy Blackburne.
Sylvia had 2 great grandchildren: Annabelle and Emilie Kennett. Sylvia is also survived by her sister Eileen Chappell.
Sylvia lived most of her life in East Kelowna and was always very passionate about her home. She loved flowers, gardening and nature and most of all spending time with family. Sylvia hiked all over the Okanagan with family, friends and the Naturalist Club.
Often she would paint water colour paintings of scenes she enjoyed. Another favourite activity was going to the cabin at Eagle Bay. She spent many happy days swimming, enjoying the view and having tea on the beach with many different people.
Sylvia was very involved in St Mary’s Anglican church and attended there for many years. She played the organ, sang in the choir and participated in many church activities. Sylvia will be greatly missed by many people. She had a wonderful smile and was genuinely interested in pleasing and helping others.
Please think of her when you are sharing a cup of tea or other beverage with someone you care about.
The family would like to thank the Hawthorn Park and Orchard Manor staff for the loving care she received while living there. A service will be determined at a later date when we can all be together.
