Kelowna businesses can’t make a deal with offshore customer

How difficult can it be to spend money with Kelowna merchants?

To the editor:

How difficult can it be to spend money with Kelowna merchants?

I live in Australia but have owned two ski resort condos near Kelowna for almost 9 years. We love visiting the Okanagan.

I have been trying to buy a bundle of new products to update the condos before the coming ski season;

• 6 TV’s

• 5 DVD’s

• A Playstation system

• Sound gear + a TV console and

• 4 clock radios

In all well in excess of  $5,000 of goods.

After eight weeks and dealing with two major outlets in Kelowna long distance, I cannot complete a purchase.  No one will take my money!

We have a Canadian credit card and we have a bank account in Kelowna that we can arrange a transfer from but in both cases, despite friendly emails and phone calls including details of pricing, when it comes to closing nothing has come to pass.

I had assumed it was better to buy locally rather than buy on-line and have the goods delivered direct to the address.

Is there any Kelowna merchant that deals with consumer electronics and is interested to service an off-shore client?  Help!

G. Thorley,

Sydney, Australia
