To the editor:
Charlie Hodges’ column in Friday Feb. 14 Capital News (More Questions Than Answers About Site Development) has put this whole issue into its proper context by shown how undemocratic [Kelowna city] council and staff have set it up so that the outcome can only be in their favour.
Several years ago my wife and I, along with a lot of other residents of the Mission, took part in discussions for the OCP for this area at St. Paul’s United Church, hosted by the late councillor Alyce Clark and councillor Sharon Shepherd. One of the main decisions made was for all of the lake shore property now being discussed to be acquired for waterfront park.
Another item discussed was regarding the property bounded by Gordon, Casorso and Barnes and the promise made by council at that time was that property would not be allowed to be filled with condominiums as was done on KLO across from Okanagan College. And what do we have now well on its way to become exactly that?
If council were to do the right thing since we have waited this long, why not hold off a little longer and at the time of the next election put it on the ballot for a vote by the citizens?
