Letter: Elections produce lots of bad examples

I enjoyed reading Kathy Michael’s piece on the election of Ms. Brosseau in Quebec. (Don’t Blame the Elected for the Faults of the Electorate, May 13 Capital News.)

To the editor:

I enjoyed reading Kathy Michael’s piece on the election of Ms. Brosseau in Quebec. (Don’t Blame the Elected for the Faults of the Electorate, May 13 Capital News.)

Since her election she has appeared publicly and spoke only French. While her fluency leaves room for improvement she is making the effort. I too wish her the best of luck.

For the record, the world is full of examples of elected representatives which proved that the electorate gets what it deserves. Look no further than the last US president, or if you really want a stretch, Adolph Hitler was elected in Germany in 1933. (I hate using Hitler references in modern debates but it seems to be relevant here).
