Letter: Here’s one who hates parking rate increases

DeHart states she spoke with ‘a number’ of people and had no negative feedback. Well let me be the first to give negative feedback.

Re: City Parking Fees Will Go Up, Jan. 28 Capital News.

As of June 1 the on-street rates will go from 50 cents per hour to $1.25 per hour and off-street parking could go to $5.25 from $3 per day.

Pretty hefty rate increase I’d say, but God bless councillor Maxine DeHart.

She’s all for it because many tourists and people who moved here from elsewhere have mentioned how cheap the parking rates are here compared to where they came from.

So we can blame these folks for the increase.

In local media, DeHart also states she spoke with ‘a number’ of people and had no negative feedback. How many is ‘a number’ of people?

Well let me be the first to give negative feedback.

My wife and I rarely go downtown, the ugly light standards, the parking spaces that make it look as if the cars are parked on the sidewalk and, in one store close to city park, $300 pairs of jeans and $150 T-shirts were the reasons why. Now with these outrageous parking rates it will be a lot less often.

We will spend our money down on Pandosy or at the mall.
