Letter: Local block voting a bad precedent

…the issues are now sidelined and…members toeing the line to what the group’s (political party) message is.

To the editor:

I am very disturbed by Kelowna’s new political institutions that are attempting to get voters enbloc to support a team of candidates.

I don’t care for either bloc.

This is the way our provincial and federal politics have gone, that is, the issues are now sidelined and it becomes a fight on personalities, about members toeing the line to what the group’s (political party) message is.

I am not saying that these municipal voting blocs exercise that much power now, but in the past the parties did not have the control over their MPs and MLAs that exist now.

It is a bad step in the wrong direction.
