To the editor:
I see one of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s little puppets, named Dan Albas, is using your newspaper to tell us what a great deal his government is giving students.
He tells us that tuition fees are deductible.
Well here is a news flash—they have been for over 30 years.
This is not a Conservative invention. The $400 education amount is a “deduction.”
So in order for a student to get the benefit they must have a substantial income to write this off against.
We all know this will never happen so the “deduction” is meaningless.
Real support should take the form of upgrading and expanding trade schools and encouraging industry to fund apprenticeships.
