Re: The firing of Evan Solomon
Few events surprise me, however, I was shocked and disappointed by the news Evan Solomon had been fired by the CBC. Solomon was the journalistic host extraordinaire of two of my favourite current affairs programs: CBC’s weekday television show, Power and Politics, and CBC’s Saturday radio program, The House.
After years of covering stories about the downfall of others, how could Solomon rationalize taking lucrative commissions for brokering art deals if such undertakings would jeopardize his future with CBC?
Perhaps the allure of ‘easy money’ becomes overpowering for mere mortals who spend too much time hobnobbing with the god-like rich and powerful. Mike Duffy was a journalist who spent most of his adult life aspiring to be one of the ‘insiders’ and we all know what happened to his moral compass.
Was Solomon’s judgment impaired by a similar desire to be one of the god-like rich and powerful? Please say it isn’t so.
