To the editor:
When observing what has and is occurring in the Ukraine (most noteably the Crimea) the question being avoided bares being asked: What is the point in signing a treaty guaranteeing sovereignty, national border integrity and international law when those offering the “guarantee” are only prepared to talk when the chips are down?
The Ukraine agreed to give up their nuclear weapons back in 1994 only when the US, EU and Russia signed a treaty with them guaranteeing their national sovereignty, national border integrity and international law — where are those “guarantees“ now?? After this disgusting demonstration of international diplomacy (i.e.: the keeping of agreements, etc.), why would a nuclear power like North Korea (or Pakistan or India, etc.) ever take the word of “guarantors“, like the USA, the EU, the UK, the UN, Canada and Russia?
