Armstrong, Kelowna pick up lacrosse wins

The Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League got a jump on the May long weekend with the four teams playing a pair of games Thursday, May 18.

The defending champion, undefeated Kelowna Raiders stayed perfect with a 21-4 romp over the hometown Vernon Tigers at Kal Tire Place North.

Jacob McMillan scored seven times and added three assists for a 10-point night to earn Raiders’ player of the game honours.

In Armstrong, the hometown Shamrocks got five goals from Logan Strohm in a huge 13-9 victory over the Kamloops Rattlers at the Nor-Val Sports Centre.

Tyson Fair and Joshua DuMont each scored twice for the Irish while single markers went to Mykl Drabiuk, Reed Cashato, Ethan Dodge and Kyle Versteeg.

Armstrong goalie Connor Senn made huge key stops when needed.

The Shamrocks will host longtime rivals Vernon in their next game Friday, May 26, 7:30 p.m. start at the Nor-Val Sports Centre.

• The Vernon Iron Ghost Construction Tigers will play their first of two homes games in Vernon in the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League Saturday, May 20.

The Tigers host the South Okanagan Flames at Kal Tire Place. Game time is 7 p.m. Vernon is playing home games this season in Armstrong, Vernon and Salmon Arm.

Vernon takes on the Kamloops Venom Tuesday, May 23, at Kal Tire Place (7 p.m.) before playing its final two home games in the Shuswap at Salmon Arm’s Shaw Centre June 3 and June 17.

The Tigers sit in second place in the four-team loop at 4-2, both losses coming to the undefeated Venom (6-0). The Flames are only one point behind Vernon at 3-4-1, but have played two more games.
