Athletics swept by Cards, Tritons up next

Abbotsford takes over first place in the B.C. Premier Baseball League with four wins over A’s

The Okanagan Athletics took one on the chin from the top team in the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

The hometown and league-leading Abbotsford Cardinals swept a four-game series from the A’s over the weekend at Delair Park.

The Cards (9-1) took both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader with 3-0 and 5-3 victories. The Athletics (5-11) managed just nine hits over the two games.

In Sunday’s opener, the A’s took the game to extra innings before losing 4-3. Jackson Borne turned in a solid start, allowing two earned runs and five hits in 7 1/3 innings of work. Jaden Parsons and Adam Sarafinchin each had two hits in the loss.

In the series finale, the Cardinals won 10-3. Alex Wright had two of Okanagan’s five hits, including his third home run, in the defeat.

Statistically, Jaden Parsons is enjoying a solid spring for the A’s, leading the team in hitting with 19 hits and a .373 average.

Jackson Borne tops the pitching staff with a 2-0 record, 1.88 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 26 innings of work.

The A’s return home this coming weekend to take on the White Rock Tritons (5-5). Saturday’s doubleheader at Elks Stadium begins at 2 p.m.
