Kelowna's Sean Bergman captured the B.C. Athletics cross country title for 16-17 year old athletes last weekend in Abbotsford.

Bergman runs to valley and B.C titles

It’s been a good couple of weeks on the provincial running trails for Kelowna’s Sean Bergman.

The Okanagan Athletics Club and KSS Owls track team members ran to victory at both the B.C. Athletics cross country championships and the Central Okanagan high school championships.

Over the weekend in Abbotsford, Bergman captured the B.C. Athletics title in the boys’ 16-17 division with a time of 15 minutes nine seconds at the 5 k distance.

OAC teammate and OKM student Adam Murray took fourth place in 15:38.

Vernon’s Hannah Bennison won the girls 15-year-old division (3,000m) in 9:37, while OAC’s Kyra McNulty was second in 9:54.

In the girls 14-year-old category, Lake Country’s Taryn O’Neill (George Elliot) won gold with a time of 9:47.

Valley cross country…

Last week, Bergman showed the way at the Okanagan high school cross country running championships.

Bergman completed the 6.4 km event at Telemark in a time of 21 minutes 35 seconds.

OKM’s Adam Murray was second in 21:53, while Pleasant Valley’s Mack Moody was third in 22:33.

Vernon’s Hannah Bennison won the senior girls division, taking the 4.6 km race in 16:19.

Kyra McNulty of KSS was second in 17:23.

In the junior boys division (6.4). OKM’s Jacob Harris was the winner in 24:21.

In the junior girls category (4.6 k) George Elliot’s Taryn O’Neill took first place in 17:06, Aberdeen Hall’s Willow Benitz was second in 19:02, while GES athlete Rylee Paulson was third in 19:54.

The top athletes from the Central Okanagan will represent the district at the B.C. School Sports provincial cross country championships this weekend, Saturday, Nov. 1 in Victoria.
