Cheerleading championships Saturday at UBCO

The 5th annual Okanagan Cheerleading Championships are set for this Saturday at the UBC Okanagan campus gymnasium.

More than 800 athletes, aged three to adult, from around B.C. and Alberta will be competing, including teams from local programs Okanagan Firestorm Cheerleading and Rutland Senior Secondary.

Programs from Vancouver Island, Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Fort St.John, Athabasca, Medicine Hat and Kelowna will put it all on the line in their final competition of the 2017 season.

Athletes will perform skills in tumbling, jumps, dance and stunting for a panel of internationally recognized judges.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Spectator admission is at the door $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, kids 5 and under free.
