Six different Kelowna Chiefs players scored en route to a shutout victory over the North Okanagan Knights.
The Chiefs defeated the Knights 6-0 during a Sunday afternoon game in Armstrong.
Josh Baird scored the first goal off a pass from Dakota Kittle and Josh Johnston at 14:04 in the first period. It was followed with an unassisted goal from Jeran Knorr.
The Chiefs didn’t hold back with Braeden Cyra scoring his 14th of the season in the second period. Ethan Rusnack and Ryan Lawson assisted.
In the third period, Carter Melnyk, Austin Dorn and Kittle (PP) all scored to make the game 6-0. Melnyk was awarded the Away Star for his goal.
Chris Turner posted another KIJHL career shutout, stopping all 16 shots against him. Knights goaltender Josh Shank faced 51 shots on goal, earning him the home star of the game.
The victory put an end to the Kelowna Chiefs four game losing streak. The team’s last win was on Wednesday, January 21st when they posted a 5-0 shutout victory over the Princeton Posse.
On Friday, January 30th the Chiefs were defeated 3-1 by the Osoyoos Coyotes at Rutland Arena. Cyra scored the Chiefs lone goal at the 3:44 mark in the third period.
Up next, the Kelowna Chiefs welcome the Princeton Posse on Tuesday, February 3rd at Rutland Arena. They will hit the road on the long weekend with stops in Summerland, Osoyoos and finally Invermere to face the Columbia Valley Rockies.
