The Edgecombe Homers Under-16 bantam girls fastball team beat every team they played at least once at the B.C. Championships in Chilliwack earlier this month, coming up just short of a provincial championship after an impressive run at the girls fastball event.
After posting a 3-1 record in the round robin against some very stiff competition, the Homers started the playoff round with a 11-6 win against the Parksville Rage.
The team then went on to defeat both of the top two seeds in the tournament with wins over the Penticton Power and the Gibson Crushers. The three wins advanced the Homers to the finals where they again met the Gibson Crushers with the B.C. Championship title on the line.
The final saw both teams teams play solid defence and hit the ball hard but it was Gibsons who emerged at the end of the game as the Homers came up one run short, losing the game in the final inning but finishing with a strong second place performance.
Individually there were some excellent performances on the field as well as in a skills competition. Cassidy Cyra placed third in the home-run skills competition while Lauren Jaenicke was third in the base running skills comp.
