Kelowna athlete breaks record

Jerome Blake broke the record in the 100 metre during the Canada Games in Winnipeg

A Kelowna athlete has broken a Canada Games record this week.

Jerome Blake broke the record in the 100 metre but, finished 0.002 seconds behind the photo-finish winner. Blake won gold in the 200m and the 4 x 400 metre relay.

“It’s been great. It’s been a pleasure being here. The city of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba have hosted us very well. All of these volunteers leave their homes and families to come out here and help us out,” said Blake.

Blake is proud to be a part of Team BC, he said.

“It’s always a pleasure to represent my province. It’s always a joy for me to come out here and represent B.C. Everyone from B.C. is like family. They support each other no matter what.”

The first week of competition at the 2017 Canada Summer Games finished Friday in Winnipeg. Team BC is sitting in second place in the medal standings with 26 gold medals, 26 silvers, and nine bronzes for a total of 61, according to a Team BC release.
