Kelowna Jackrabbits women’s volleyball team keeps on going

A fixture in the East Kelowna volleyball community, the core of the team has stuck together over the long haul

The Kelowna Jackrabbits just keep on going.

The Jackrabbits, a lady’s volleyball team, has been a fixture in the East Kelowna volleyball community for the past 25 years, playing Sunday nights at the East Kelowna Hall and hosting a popular recreational volleyball tournament each year.

The team has been together since 1990 and several players have come and gone from the team, but the core group of women have all been together since the beginning, sticking together through growing families and changing scenarios.

The Jackrabbits have lived up to their name over the years and have more than 20 children combined.

“We love the East Kelowna Hall and the volleyball community,” said player Kim Witala. “It’s an awesome volleyball community. We host our tournament every year to allow for women to get away, play volleyball and enjoy other women’s company.”

Seven teams took part in the tournament this year with many of the teams featuring returning players. Together with the games, the tournament features fun skills contests with prizes given out to winners.

The actual volleyball league runs from September until March every year with the tournament taking place each January

The Kelowna Jackrabbits are: Wendy Jaenicke, Lori Mullin, Natasha Statin-Monteith, Suzie Doratti, Kim Felty, Teresa Robson-Begly, Kelly Thors, Roberta Montgomery and Kim Witala.
