Seven months removed from their last competition, athletes tuned up for the new gymnastics season last weekend in Kelowna at the Cobweb Invitational.

The annual competition at the Okanagan Gymnastics Centre featured 220 gymnasts from across the valley, as well as teams from Nelson and Kitimat. In the largest Cobweb to date, 75 OGC athletes competed.

In the Performance category for the first time was Brielle Leach.

In the Performance Plus category, Shiphra Penner, Katie Flaten, Emily Johnson, Olivia Pilato and Nyah Hedstrom all finished with the gold medal overall.

Aida Hedstrom and Macy Eburne won a silver medal overall, while Caitlin Mahony won bronze.

In the Performance Challenge category, Jordan Carson, Katjana Geismayr, Seija Bishop, Jordan Hilverda, Austyn Bannister and Ava Schraeder earned gold overall. Eva Moore, Caiya Taylor-Ainslie, Shelbi Jardine and Olivia Thompson won overall silver.

At the provincial level, OGC finished with first overall in 11 out of 15 categories.

Izabelle Coetzee won the JO 3 Jr A category with gold on vault, bars and floor exercise. She also won silver on the balance beam. Tara Dunn finished second overall, winning gold on balance beam and silver on uneven bars and floor exercise. Makena Ivanitz finished with a bronze medal on beam.

Junelle Sabang was first in the JO 3 Jr B category, winning gold on bars and floor. She also earned silver on vault and balance beam. Talia Westwood won the balance beam, finished second overall and second on floor, and won bronze on the uneven bars. Rae Roworth finished won a gold on the vault, while Ava Roth earned silver on vault.

In the JO 3 Sr category, Summer Houston won the vault with a 9.55, and finished third overall and third on floor exercise. Eva Solano was on the floor and second place on balance beam.

In JO 4 Jr, Iulia Tarasenco won the all around gold, taking gold on bars, beam and floor and finished third on vault. Piper Campo was second overall, capturing gold on vault and beam, silver on floor and was third on uneven bars. Haylee VanSteinburg was third overall after a bronze on the floor exercise. Alexandra Kennedy won a silver medal on vault and uneven bars.

Taylor Morrison won the JO 4 Sr category after finishing first on bars and floor. She also earned silver on the balance beam. Teagan Murray finished second overall with a gold medal on the vault and balance beam.

Veronika Yacovelli won the JO 5 category after winning the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Kate Levinsen finished second overall after finishing second on the floor exercise and third place on uneven bars.

Olive Fenske was second overall in the JO 6 Jr category after a gold on floor and second on vault. Sydney Ortynski finished first on the uneven bars and third on the floor exercise.

Alayna Butler won a silver in JO 6 Sr, while Naomi Schrader took silver on the floor exercise in JO 7.

Miah Denis was first overall in the Aspire 1 category, taking first on the uneven bars and balance beam. Natalia Simeonovic earned silver overall, finishing first on vault and floor and second on bars and beam. Jayelle Williams finished third on vault, bars and beam.

German exchange student Kimberly Stadtmueller, who trains in Kelowna, finished second overall after earning a silver on the balance beam and bronze on uneven bars.

Taylor Bowden earned silver on the uneven bars, while Emily Mackay won the vault and floor exercise.

Mackenzie Carroll won gold for her performance on the balance beam, while Danica Graves finished with a silver on the balance beam and Braelyn Dillon won bronze on the vault.

Vanessa Bulcock won the JO 9 category with gold on the vault, uneven bars and balance beam. She also won silver on the floor exercise. Sophie Tesar was second overall after winning the floor and finishing second on vault and uneven bars and third place on the balance beam. Grace Driver earned third overall, finishing with a bronze medal on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. Samantha Pelletier earned a silver medal on the balance beam.

Kamryn Greenhalgh won all four events to capture the HP Novice category. Amanda Jaggard finished second overall with silver on bars, beam and floor and a bronze on vault. Kyleigh Crawford finished third overall with silver on vault and bronze on bars, beam and floor.

Jenna Mick was the only competitor in JO 10 and Lucia Jakab was the only athlete in HP Junior. Both girls are eligible for Canadian championships in their respective categories.
