Mick, Hiscock and Clegg lead Okanagan Gymnastics Centre

Kelowna gymnasts win many medals at Ogopogo Invitational last weekend at UBC Okanagan

Okanagan Gymnastics Centre athletes made the most of familiar surroundings with some strong performances at the 2013 edition of the Ogopogo Invitational last weekend in  Kelowna.

Close to 500 athletes from B.C., Alberta and Yukon competed in one of the largest Ogopogos ever held.

Jenna Mick won the all around in the level 5 Tyro category after earning a gold medal on the balance beam and silver medals on the vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

Lucia Jakab won silver in the all around in the Pre-Novice Aspire category after earning a bronze medal on the vault and silvers on the uneven bars and floor exercise.  Gabriela Beselt won silver on the vault and bronze on the uneven bars in this category.

Brooke Murray won a gold medal on the balance beam and a silver medal on the vault in the level 4 Novice category.  Bryn Walsh won silver on the balance beam in the same category.

In the women’s competition, Jillian Beaudreau earned a bronze medal on the vault in the level 2 Argo category.  Kenedi Woodcox earned a bronze medal on the floor in the level 2 Argo category.

In the men’s competition, Shane Hiscock earned the all around title in the level 4 competition after recently earning the Western Canadian Championship title in this category.   Hiscock won gold on the floor exercise, pommel horse, vault and parallel bars, and a bronze medal on the rings.

Lucas Fabian finished in third all around in the level 4 men’s competition.  Fabian won gold medals on the rings and horizontal bar, silver on the floor exercise and vault.

Brady Clegg won the level 2 category with gold medals on the rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.  He also earned a silver medal on the pommel horse and a bronze on the floor exercise.

In men’s and women’s gymnastics, there are developmental programs where the athletes earn a “gold,” “silver,” or “bronze” ribbon for each event based on their score.  This is for the younger athletes so they can focus on learning the important basics and not worry about rankings.

In the women’s category, Chelsea Ozechowski and Amanda Jaggard competed in the level 2 pre-argo category.  Ozechowski earned “silver” on vault, “bronze” on uneven bars, and “gold” on beam and floor giving her “silver” all around.  Jaggard earned “bronze” on vault, “silver” on uneven bars, “bronze” on beam, and “gold” on floor giving her “silver” all around.

In the women’s level 1 pre-argo category, Naomi Schraeder earned “silver” on vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise, “bronze” on balance beam for a “silver” all around.

Vienna Harwood earned “silver” on vault, balance beam and floor exercise, “bronze” on uneven bars for “silver” all around.

Samantha Pelletier earned “gold” on uneven bars and floor exercise, “silver” on vault and “bronze” on balance beam for a “silver” all around.

Men’s level 1 uses the same scoring structure.

Luca Curcio earned “gold” on all six men’s events as well as an all around “gold.”

Willis Plant earned “gold” on five events, “silver” on parallel bars, and  “gold” all around.

Dylan Hehr earned “gold” on five events, “silver” on parallel bars, and “gold” all around.
