Alec Henderson and Ainsley MacDonald did at Silverstar like they have done all year — win medals.

The pair of Apex Freestyle Club (AFC) skiers competed with the best at the Timber Tour championship at Vernon’s Silverstar Resort, March 24 to 26.

“They did awesome,” said AFC coach Kenni Kuroda

In the Timber Tour’s Best of Series, Henderson took gold in the under-14 mens moguls, while MacDonald picked up silver. In slopestyle, both won gold.

“All year long they have just been on fire,” said Kuroda. “They showed it again at the Timber Tour champs. They skied excellent.”

Kuroda said Henderson and MacDonald are true competitors who don’t wilt under pressure.

“They are both poker-faced competitors,” he said.

With that demeanour, the pair didn’t hold back throwing big tricks. In the moguls on opening day, MacDonald took silver with a score of 59.75. Henderson picked up gold with 66 points.

In slopestyle, MacDonald took silver, while Jordan MacDonald earned bronze. Henderson also took gold.

MacDonald then broke her collarbone while skiing, but not in competition, and wasn’t able to compete in big air. However, MacDonald said competing in the championships was a fun experience, even in challenging conditions from fog.

“It wasn’t my best performance in the moguls. I had almost crashed on the top air off my 360,” said MacDonald, a Kelowna resident, who joined AFC from Big White to get into moguls. “It’s very exciting (to medal). It shows to me that my work this year has paid off. I’ve worked really hard.”

Kuroda said that under-16 skier Ethan Phillips also skied exceptional as he won gold in the Best of Series for moguls. Kuroda said Phillips performed “up to and beyond his ability.” In moguls Phillips won gold.

Nate Parsons, under-16,who had not reached the podium all season, was second.

“I was really excited for him, being able to accomplish that,” said Kuroda.

From Super Youth, Sasha Lovell, 11, won gold competing against 12-year-olds.

“She skied fantastic for her age and abilities right now,” said Kuroda.

In slopestyle, Cullan Bray, nine, was sixth, Darrah Lovell was eighth. Ethan Morf, 12, placed sixth. In moguls, Lovell was fourth in M9, Bray was eighth. Grady Parson was seventh in M11 and Morf won gold in M12.

In the Super Youth Medley, a mix of slopestyle, moguls and big air in one run, Lovell was second in M9, Bray was seventh and Morf earned bronze.

In other AFC news, alumni Madison Parker (Port Moody) was selected as an alternate to represent Canada at a World Championship event in Italy. She will join Brayden Kuroda who is competing.
