Okanagan Rockets push win streak to six

Brandon Whistle has seven points as Rockets sweep weekend set of BCMML games from Kootenay

The Kootenay Ice didn’t offer much resistance as the Okanagan Rockets ran their B.C. Major Midget League winning streak to six games with a weekend sweep at the Capital News Centre.

Brandon Whistle scored two goals and added three assists, as the Rockets took Saturday’s opener 6-0. Levi Johnson added a pair of goals, with Connor Bowey and Brett Witala scoring singles, and Zach Erhardt chipping in with three assists.

Jordan Reynolds stopped 25 shots in the Rockets net for his first BCMML shutout and fifth win of the season.

On Sunday, more of the same as Okanagan rolled to an 8-2 win.

Calvin Rout Nolan Kneen paced the attack with two goals each, while Witala, Johnson, Tre Doyon and Sam Binfet added singles.

Whistle had two assists for a seven-point weekend.

Cole Demers made 21 saves on 23 shots directed his way to win his third straight start.

Over the two games, the Rockets penalty kill was a perfect 13-for-13.

The Rockets (8-2-0) will be back at home this weekend looking to extend their winning streak. The Greater Vancouver Canadians will visit CNC at 3 p.m. Saturday, and at 10 a.m. Sunday.
