KSS girls claim Okanagan championship with win over Penticton Lakers

The Kelowna Owls will carry the Okaganan’s colours next month at the B.C. AAA girls high school basketball championship in Langley.

The Owls captured the 2017 valley title with a nail-biting, 57-55 win over the Pen Hi Lakers in Saturday’s final in Salmon Arm.

The championship game was close from start to finish, as Kennedy Dickie paced the Owls attack with 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Dez Day chipped in with 11 points, while Kasey Patchell had nine for KSS. Owls’ player of the game Alley Corrado had nine points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

A night earlier in the semifinal, the Owls rolled over the Salmon Arm Jewels 88-30.

Abby Cullen led KSS with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 2 steals. Corrado contributed 12 points and 8 assists, while player of the game Kennedy Dickie and Day each added 11 points.

Alley Corrado, Courtney Donaldson and Kennedy Dickie were all named to the tournament’s first all-star team, while Dez Day was a second-team selection.

Pen High’s Lindsay Carron was named the tournament’s MVP.

The lone Okanagan rep, the Owls will be at the Langley Events Centre March 1 to 4 for the B.C. AAA high school girls basketball championship.
