Raiders down Venom in junior lacrosse, still unbeaten

Kelowna defeats Kamloops to remain firmly in top spot in the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League.

The Kelowna Raiders remain unbeaten in 2013 after an 11-3 win over the visiting Kamloops Venom on Thursday in Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League action.

League-leading scorer Brendan Urban registered two goals and six assists, while captain Scott Renner added a goal and six assists as the Raiders pushed their TOJLL record to 7-0-1.

Ryley McLennan scored a hat-trick, while Andrew McMillan added two goals and an assist, and Evan Helgesen had a goal and two helpers.

Other Kelowna goals came from Justin Algar and Ryland Davidson, while Evan Richtsfeld made 31 saves in the Raiders net.

The Raiders host the second-place Vernon Tigers Thursday. Face off at Memorial Arena is 7:30.

Senior Raiders…

The Kelowna Raiders made it three straight wins in Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League action, beating the Armstrong Shamrocks 12-9 Friday night at Memorial Arena.

It was a rough start for the Raiders as an early shot careened off the glass, struck Kelowna goalie Graham Cousins in the pads and went in. But from that point, Cousins slammed  the door on the Shamrocks, and also added two assists as the Raiders beat Armstrong for the third straight time.

Newcomer Ryan Sage and counterpart Vic Wiens each scored a hat trick for the Raiders who controlled play in a defensive battle . Braden Renner added a pair, with Joe Brown, Jacob Illichmann, Pho Heng  and Nick Evans each added singles for Kelowna.

The Raiders (3-2) return to action Friday when they travel to Armstrong.
