The Kelowna Rockets completed their WHL exhibition schedule with a 5-1 record after beating Chilliwack 4-1 Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
Spencer Main, Codey Chikie, Geordie Wudrick and Antoine Corbin scored for the Rockets, who swept a home and home series with the Bruins, winning 9-1 the night before in Chilliwack.
The Rockets jumped out of the gates early, scoring just 1:15 into the game when Wudrick centered to Spencer Main who shoveled the puck home.
Chilliwack would tie it later in the period on another centering pass as Steven Hodges’s quick shot from the slot eluded Kelowna starter Adam Brown. But a goal by Kelowna’s Codey Chikie that made it 2-1 early in the second period gave the Rockets the lead for good.
Wudrick added a power play marker later in the second period to make the score 3-1, using his long reach to sweep home a Spencer Main pass in the slot. A third period marker by Antoine Corbin made it 4-1.
Kelowna will now take the next week to get its roster set for the team’s WHL home opener on Sept. 25 when they host the Prince George Cougars at Prospera Place.
