Nick Merkley had a goal and and assist, and Tomas Soustal scored the game winner in the third as the Kelowna Rockets downed the hometown Winterhawks 3-2 in WHL action Sunday night at the Moda Center in Portland.

The win was Kelowna's sixth win in a row and completed a two-game weekend sweep of the Winterhawks.

The Rockets (9-7-0) also beat Portland 5-3 on Saturday.

Merkley, who was named the game's first star, scored once in each game for Kelowna, his first two goals of the WHL season.

Captain Rodney Southam also tallied Sunday for the Rockets who overcame a 2-0 deficit.

Brodan Salmond stopped 42 shots in the Kelowna goal for his first win of the season.

The Rockets return to action Tuesday when they host the Kamloops Blazers. Face off at Prospera Place is 7:05 p.m.
